Mississippi Center for Violence Research Virtual Series

Patrick M. Carter, MD, co-director of the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) and Injury Prevention Center (IPC), professor of emergency medicine and professor of health behavior and health equity at the University of Michigan Medical School and School of Public Health, will present the Mississippi Center for Violence Research virtual series, "Awareness Today for a Safer Tomorrow," at noon Wednesday, July 22, online via Webex.

This series provides an opportunity to learn about multidisciplinary approaches to violence prevention. Participants will explore how education, collaboration and community engagement can help create safer environments and reduce violence. Join us for a discussion of the causes of violence, evidence-based prevention strategies and ways individuals can contribute to positive change.

Dr. Thomas Mosley, Robbie and Dudley Hughes MIND Center Chair and director of the MIND Center at UMMC, will present MIND Matters, "Promising Developments in Alzheimer's and Dementia Research," at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in Sparkman Auditorium at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, 1150 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, and online via Zoom.

This presentation will highlight recent advances in Alzheimer's disease and related dementia research, including emerging blood-based biomarkers, new treatments and current understanding of risk factors and prevention strategies to promote brain health and healthy aging. This free educational program is open to all, but registration is required. CE credit will not be offered.
